Last week the Canada Games Society unveiled the medal designs for the upcoming 2011 Canada Games in Halifax. See the article HERE
Three of our Canada Games hopefuls (Emily Terry, Thomas Starratt and Owen Craig) were in attendance and were among the first to see the design and got to take home medal shaped cookies to remind them of what they'r working for.

Friday night open play at the Tower is back starting this Friday. Here is a message from organizer, Tom Rogers:
"Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone's summer is going well! I have been in contact with one of the administrators for the Tower and because of the success of the Friday club nights during the year, they are going to allow us to continue the club night into the summer. We will have all the courts starting this Friday at 7:00 Pm for the rest of the summer. The club is open to everyone who has a Tower membership, no registration required. I hope everyone remembers how much fun the club night was during the regular season, and many will continue with the club through the summer.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday at 7:00 pm" |

Two members were elected to the Executive Committee at the AGM this May. Jeff Scribner and Martin Dumas offered for Vice-President positions and were elected by those in attendance at the 2010 AGM. The remainder of the positions were volunteered for after the AGM and were uncontested. As such we have our new executive team!
Please welcome our newest group as they will bring enthusiasm and initiative to serve the membership and the sport of squash in Nova Scotia:
President: Gilles Couture
Vice President: Jeff Scribner
Vice President: Charles Williams
Vice President: Martin Dumas
Secretary: Jennifer Tucker
Treasurer: Kyle Johnson |

The 2010 Annual General Meeting and Player Appreciation night was held at the Garrison Brewery on Thursday May 6. Although the turnout was low, some important business was conducted and we had a great time.
Due to their involvement in other squash-related activities, no-one from the 2009-2010 SNS Executive (Martin Clouthier, Jessica Gerrits, Carl Helmick, Camilla Holmvall, David Westwood, Andrew Sleigh, Blair Cook) wished to continue their position for the 2010-2011 season, so nominations were being accepted for all vacancies. Martin Dumas and Jeff Scribner were elected to two Vice-President positions, and Charles Williams offered to step forward to help out in some capacity. We are still trying to find people to step forward for the President, Treasurer, and Secretary positions.
As outgoing president, Martin Clouthier did a nice recognition of Andrew Sleigh's considerable contributions to Squash NS over the years, in response to Andrew's resignation from the Executive after 12 years of service. The following end-of-season awards were handed out:

Once again, it was a great time at the Manulife Dragon Boat Festival for the Squash Nova Scotia Community at Lake Banook on July 10th, 2010
The team called "Squash Nicks" had a great day on the lake finishing 20th out of 70 boats. This was an improvement over last years result of 26th.
Of course, the fun wasn't only happening on the water as friends, family and members of the squash community came out to support the team and enjoyed a day of swimming, relaxation and barbequeing on the lake. Thanks to everyone who came out and made this such a great day!

Written by Emily Terry
On April 22, I traveled with 7 other players from our Canada Games training group to Calgary Alberta for the Canadian Junior Championships. Hosted at the beautiful Glencoe Club, it was a great experience, especially for me as I had not attended this kind of tournament before.

Heads up to all the drop in squash players at the Tower.
There is a ladies squash league running at the Tower on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The league is just about full, though if you are dying to get in a league this summer it may be possible to squeeze in.
By all accounts the league is going well and the ladies are having a great time.
